Let’s know Science — Vankakkam / Namaste: Greeting gesture of raising the folded hands
After the Covid-19 pandemic, the practice of folded hands greetings has spread in western countries as well. Even a few years ago people in India used to greet each other’s by saying ‘hi’ and ‘hello’. A form of greetings most followed in our culture is an analysis in the hope that no one will forget if they know the science and benefits involved.
It is our basic culture to greet with folded hands to everyone. Folded hands salutation is not only a respectful body language but also a form of yoga asana and mudra.
Namaskar (Folded hands) is also a seal. When you fold your hands in obeisance, essentially your likes and dislikes about the opposite person disappear. God, gurus, and human beings should be worshiped with hands. When hands are joined and worshiped, one finger joins another finger and creates a kind of pressure on the nerves, which affects the body organs related to those nerves. This pressure and impact help to keep us alive. This pressure goes to the eyes, ears, and brain.
Handshake is a common practice in western countries, where germs can be transmitted to us through handshakes. Greet with folded hands is a sign of respect that we have been following for ages.
There are five types of folded hands salutations in our practice.
Worshiping God with hands: When worshiping God with hands, the folded hands should be raised completely above the head and worshiped. That, as a face representing the sublime position of our complete surrender while standing. That is, while worshiping deities, you should bow your hands above your head.
Greet friends and relatives with folded hands: The folded arms should be straight and close to the chest. As a face expressing deep love and friendship.
Salutation to the elders with folded hands: The folded hands should be straight to the face — to realize that our face is the primary cause of happiness and happiness. When worshiping the father, properly speaking, the hands should be bowed straight to the mouth. Mother should be worshiped with hands straight to the stomach.
Worshiping Guru: Folded hands should be straight in front of the face, slightly raised and covering the forehead to signify our intellectual salutations to the great ones who work tirelessly to improve our knowledge. That is, when worshiping the guru, you should bow your hands directly to your forehead
There are many benefits to saluting with both hands:
- Contagion does not spread in folded hands
- A finger joint with another finger gives a kind of positive effect on the nerves related to the body parts. When the ten fingers are joined together, it stimulates the sensory points of the ear and eye nipples.
- You can remember someone more when you bow your hands to him.
- Energy levels work together during prostration. Prostration with folded hands and straight to the forehead helps us to center our thoughts and focus fully.
-Your likes and dislikes about the person standing in front of you disappear when you folded the hands together.
-Frequently connecting the two hands keeps the two sides of the brain functioning properly. Also connecting the body chakras gives many benefits.
-Parts of the lungs are activated when the hands are bowed in different ways.
