Keezhanelli is a medicinal spinach that grows to about 1 ft. It depends on the type of shrub. It is named as Keezhanelli (In tamil it means Pods located down) because the pods grow in a row at the base of its leaves. Keezhanelli has been studied in different ways in various laboratories in India. The study revealed that it has surprising medicinal properties. It is a plant native to India.

Keezhanelli plant is small, the medicinal benefits it gives are huge. The whole plant is used medicinally. Due to the ingredient called Biladin in the leaves of this plant, its leaves have a bitter taste.

Do you know what is special about Keezhanelli? It is an herb that has a wonderful combination of four flavors: bitter, astringent, sweet, and sour. It is rich in potassium, vitamin C, iron, minerals and carbohydrates.

Medicinal benefits of Keezhanelli:

1. Cures Jaundice: Keezhanelli is an excellent herb that has been used in Siddha medicine for many years to cure jaundice. Grind its whole plant and drink it mixed with buttermilk, and you can see that the increased bile in jaundice gradually decreases. There are many types of jaundice. Keezhanelli can be taken as per the advice of a Siddha doctor who knows the nature, severity and type of the disease.

2. Liver protection: Keezhanelli is the guardian of the liver. The liver is the first organ to be affected by alcoholism. To reduce the damage caused to the liver due to alcoholism, eating keezhanelli is great for liver rejuvenation. Research shows that keezhanelli prevents the liver from being affected. Studies show that the extracts of keezhanelli control the growth of cancer cells.

3. Gall bladder / Reduces Body heat: Keezhanelli can be called ‘nature’s air-cooler’ as it provides the required cooling to the body. Grinding the root of Keezhanelli with cow’s milk and drinking it thrice will keep the body cool. Infectious diseases will be cured. As a first aid remedy to control excess bile in the body, Keezhanelli Thilam can be used. By rubbing its oil on the head and taking a bath twice a week, excess heat accumulated in the body will fly away.

4. Cure aversion to food: For food aversion, you can grind some chickpeas, mustard seeds and pepper and mix it with buttermilk and drink it. People who have aversion to food, if they eat keezhanelli, their aversion to food will turn into a liking for food.

5. Heals wounds: Keezhanelli has the power to purify the blood and protect us from skin diseases. Its leaves can be grounded with salt and applied to rashes and scabies. Its juice is also used to apply on cuts.

6. Stimulates digestion: Regularly adding Keezhanelli to the diet can stimulate appetite. That is, it increases secretions that aid in digestion. During April and May, the number of blood cells will increase if you drink curry powder mixed with buttermilk and Keezhanelli powder.

7. Relieves headache: Keezhanelli can resolve unrelenting headaches. Finely grind two teaspoons of castor oil, neem root, cumin and cow’s milk and drink the extract to cure headache.

8. Controls diabetes: Taking dry rice paddy powder three times before meals can control diabetes.

9. Protects the kidneys: If the toxins that remain in the kidneys are removed regularly, the functioning of the kidneys will not be disturbed. Keezhanelli helps to make this better.

10. Cures Hairfall problems: Keezhanelli has a special place in hair care. People who have problem of hair loss due to heat of the head, grind the leaves of Keezhanelli and apply it on the head and soak it for 30 minutes and take a bath, the hair loss will stop immediately.
